Debating Matters Championship

Debating Matters – That’s what our students think as well and that’s why they decided to take part ( 🙂 ) in the Berlin championship for the first time.
Our day started early at 8.30 at the University of Applied Sciences (near Potsdamer Platz).

9:50 – 11:00 – Debate I: “TOURISM BENEFITS THE WORLD”
For: Gottfried-Keller-Gymnasium (Laura & Karina)
Against: Eckener Gymnasium

12:20 – 13.30 – Debate II: “AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES WILL MAKE DRIVING SAFER”
For: Wilma Rudolph Oberschule
Against: Gottfried-Keller-Gymnasium (Mustafa & Merlin)

Even though Mustafa and Merlin won the second debate we didn’t get to the semi-finals (even though Sarah, Fatima, Nina, Simon and Antoni had prepared their motions). However, we were able to participate by asking critical questions.

Semi Finals: “IT IS WRONG FOR COUNTRIES TO OFFER TAX INCENTIVES tO ATTRACT INVESTMENT”

Final: “WESTERN MUSEUMS SHOULD AGREE TO REPATRIATE CULTURAL ARTEFACTS”

At the end of the day (at 18.30!) not only the best school was awarded a prize, but also the best individual performances were honoured – among them KARINA who became second best individual at the DEBATING MATTERS Berlin Championship 2019! We’re very proud of her! 🙂

We had a great day, learned a lot and are looking forward to winning next year!
